Fault Finding and Action Plan
Short Term Action Plan
- Continuous monitoring of engine parameters
- Keep a close watch
- Reduce engine speed ( reduce 1 RPM in 2 minutes period of time)
- Max RPM within the limit of exhaust temperature deviation
Long Term Action Plan
Stop -> Replace -> Repair
Stopping Procedure of large two stroke MAN B&W MC90V Engine (VLCC ship)
Prequisite
1. Shaft generator on load at sea (full away)
2. Turbo generator
3. Both generators are stopped
- Start another generator if load on shaft generator
- Start D/G
- Synchronize
- Load sharing
- Off load Shaft Generator
Taking the shaft generator off load using Power Chief – Generator Control Panel
Procedure (Referring to above screenshot):
i. Put generator no: 1 on priority 1
ii. Put generator no: 2 on priority 2
iii. Put Shaft Generator on priority 3
iv. Put “Control Mode” on “Equal Load“
v. After a while generator 1 will start and take the load, shaft generator will off load.
vi. At 40% RPM, the shaft generator will be disengaged from the main engine
- Check oil fired boiler, keep it on “Automatic Combustion Control” to ensure automatic boiler operation.
- Make sure “turbo generator” steam source changed to oil fired boiler (previously from exhaust gas boiler) (assign 4/E for this)
