Leaky Exhaust Valve – Major Faults in Main Engine (MC90V) Series
Observation:
- Pcom lower, sign of mechanical fault (air tight integrity)
- Exhaust temperature higher than normal
- Scavenge air flow normal (in case of scavenge port fouling air flow will be less)
- Pcom less, Pmax less
- Cylinder head temperature higher than normal (in case of scavenge port fouling this wont happen)
- Liner temperature normal (in case of blow-by this temperature will be higher)
Conclusion:
- From aboveindication it is evident that, unit no-01’s exhaust valve is leaking.
Note:
In the case of scavenge port choke, signs are similar. The particular difference in scavenge airflow, the air flow will be less.
Whenever the exhaust valve is leaking, the cylinder head temperature will be higher than normal. This is a distinguishable parameter change in the case of exhaust valve leakage.
