Scavenge Port Fouling – Major Faults in Main Engine (MC90V) Series

Lets look at some of the engine parameters first.

ME turbocharger system
Unit no-01 (faulty)
Unit no-02 (normal unit)
Unit no-01 piston ring condition
Draw Card (pink faulty, blue healthy)

Observation:

  • Low Pcom, indication of mechanical fault, low Pmax
  • Higher exhaust temperature.
  • Scavenge air flow less than other healthy units.
  • Cylinder head temperature normal.
  • Liner temperature normal.
  • Piston ring conditiono normal
  • Draw card indicates low Pcom, low Pmax

Conclusion:

  • Above observations indicated scavenge air port faulty (partially chocked).

Note:

  • Indications can be confusing, but
    IF
  • exhaust v/v defective – cylinder head temp. high, air flow normal
