The followings can drastically reduce the amount of heat transfer between the refrigerant & the cooling water at the condenser :
1. Sea water side fouling of the tubes.
2. Growth of barnacles – restricting optimum cooling water flow.
resulting in:
1. the refrigerant in the condenser not achieving liquid state with desired degree of subcooling.
2. more refrigerant Flashing Off at the TEV – waste of energy.
3. reduction in the refrigerating effect.
4. reduction in Coefficient of Performance of the system.
5. increase in compressor running hours.
